“Del Popolo” is a mobile pizzeria committed to creating “rustic” Neapolitan-inspired “pizzas” using ingredients sourced from small, generational producers.

“Del Popolo” is housed in a twenty-foot transatlantic shipping container that’s been re-purposed and modified into a kitchen.

A wall of glass doors exposes the interior, including the traditional Italian-made wood-fired oven.

Jon Darsky’s mobile “pizzeria” cost him a whopping $180,000.00, but it seems to be a hit.

A huge Italian “wood fired stove” that can cook a Pizza in one minute has been built in.

The mobile pizzeria is traveling through San Francisco and “cooks” Pizza for anyone hungry.

Some of Jon Darsky’s “menu” items are:

Pizza “Margherita” Tomato, basil, fresh mozzarella…
Pizza “Bianca” Fresh mozzarella, fresh ricotta, basil, garlic, extra virgin olive oil
Pizza “Meat” Tomato, mozzarella, fennel sausage, Hungarian goat horn peppers
Pizza “Potato” Fresh mozzarella, French Fingerling potatoes, rosemary

in addition to “Mexican Coke, Empire Diet Cola, Arnold Palmer, Bruce Cost Fresh Ginger Ale and Sparkling Water” beverages.

Jon Darsky charges ten dollars for a “Margherita” pizza. He could probably charge more, but Darsky explains that this price “fits” with what he sees as his mission as a “pizzaiolo.”

“I want it to be pizza for everybody,” he says. This is why he has named the truck “Del Popolo,” which is Italian for of the people.”

The name “Del Popolo” is not just a glib, Darsky told. “I want to go out and make relatively affordable pizza and serve it to a lot of people, people who wouldn’t otherwise have it. That’s sort of my philosophy on the whole thing.”

Del Popolo is currently closed for vacation. They’ll be back in business the second week of January.
