Almost Obama Sons

obama sonsBarack Obama, who wants everyone to feel that there is a part of him that they can identify with, is intent on referring to “sons” he doesn’t have.

He has two daughters, yet Obama consistently refers to his “sons.”

Five times Obama has referred to his “sons” in speeches he has giving.

The last three times Obama used this “figure of speech” he was discussing the “preventive services” regulation of the Health and Human Services department, which will require health care plans to provide women with sterilizations and FDA approved contraceptives (including abortifacients) free of charge.

The latest example of Obama invoking his “phantom sons” was at a campaign event at the New Amsterdam Theater in New York City.

He mentioned his sons in this way:

“We’re not going to go back to the days when somehow women couldn’t get the preventive care that they need … We don’t need a situation where women aren’t controlling their own health care choices. We don’t need to eliminate Planned Parenthood. I want my daughters to have the same opportunities as “my” sons. That’s part of what America is about. We’re not turning back the clock. We’re not going backwards.”

Later that day, at the Waldorf Astoria, Obama must have gotten a note from his teleprompter; he suddenly made his “sons” less specific:

“We’re not going to go back to the days when suddenly women don’t have preventive care, or we eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood. We’re not going back to those days. I want my daughters to have the same opportunities as “our” sons. And I want our women to have the same ability to control their health care decisions as anybody else. We’re not going backwards.

Obama’s other mentions of his “sons”:

In Chicago, discussing the Lily Ledbetter law: “I want my daughters treated the same way as my sons.”

In Redwood City, California: “I want women to control their own health care choices, just like I want my daughters to have the same opportunities as my sons.”

At the Rubin Museum of Art in Manhattan: “I don’t want my daughters treated differently than my sons.”

At the Iowa state fairgrounds: “I want women to control their own health choices, just like I want my daughters to have the same economic opportunities as my sons.”

The Des Moines Register posted a video that showed Obama using a teleprompter when he invoked “my sons” in that speech.

Sons? What sons? How many? Where? Names? Do the girls know? More importantly, does Michelle?
